Awareness about Mattress & Importance of Sleep :
With 24 hours in a day, every individual will spend at least 8 to 10 hours trying to sleep so that they can rejuvenate & recover from the physical as well as mental stress that they may have exerted upon themselves trying to achieve their daily objectives.
1/3rd OF LIFE IS SPEND IN SLEEPING, ON BED, ON A MATTRESS.
Let us understand what happens when we sleep, so that importance of a genuine mattress can be realized:
A) We make use of our body to carry out daily activities, professional activities by large takes about minimum 8 to 10 hours of optimization of available stemina & energies from our body.
B) Apparently every organ is utilized by the body to enable us to remain effective & efficient on the job.
C) And like every other machine that we service them after specific usage hours, the human body too needs service of its parts & organs every day & that takes place when we sleep.
D) It is during our sleeping hours our body starts servicing itself, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM the liver carries out detoxification, while between 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM Kidneys too does the detoxification, and from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM our lungs does detoxification, REM sleep of 90 minutes during each cycle of sleep helps to repair & rejuvenate muscles, bones grows, hormones are balanced & sorting of memory is done, all of these is possible only if we are at sleep during these time.
E) Ladies, the day when you wake up & see your face skin glowing, you may realize that you have had a sound sleep & that alone worked so well not only on your skin but the entire body feels healed, stronger & healthy.
So now we understand why sound sleep is so very important in keeping us physically & mentally Competitive.
Mattress selection Paradox :
A very profound consumer mindset we all have is that any product that we buy must be lasting, if not for the rest of our life then at least for a couple of decades.
Name it any home appliances, vehicle, furniture or gadget, irrespective of the nature of its application & operational or service limitations we expect them all to serve us forever.
But we do change our mobile handsets, in a couple of years, as every couple of months the mobile business promoters keep bringing new versions with added features to their newer versions, that we might be benefited from.
We do change our cars as the newer versions once again have more features and offer better value for the money.
Likewise we change many of these durables & facilities way before their life shell is over, just because the newer versions are more productive, efficient & promising. Here we look at these products for its effectiveness, results, assistance to our daily requirements & hence we do not mind to replace them with newer & better versions.
Unfortunately we do not see a mattress with the same understanding. First when we are buying a mattress, we have been taught that a mattress should be HARD, why because over a period of time it may become soft, so the principle applied here is that the harder the mattress the better will it be life span, as then it will get softer after a very long period & eventually will last decade or two.
We gladly maintain phone worth of our one months salary, that we may use 3 to 4 hours a day with absolute understanding that no matter, however careful we may remain in using & maintaining that very phone, within couple of years it will have to be replaced, whereas we don't think or even consider spending as much on a mattress that we use at least 8 to 10 hours in a day & that is directly responsible for our healthy life, longevity & over all well being.
Considerations during Selection of Mattress :
A) Having understood, critical health benefits that are directly impacted with right choice of mattress & having evaluated that it is worth to spend on getting the right combination of mattress, as it is still going to last longer than your mobile phone.
B) Any mattress with quilting, helps keep the top surface bounded, while the gap in between works are air pockets, leaving the skin to have enough air to breath.
C) Top layer of any mattress MUST be soft enough to take the shape of your body, while the secondary layer must be able to suspend your body without allowing it to sink in further, as these will exert enough pressure on your muscles to help release the stress out of it, at the same point in time a balanced body posture will be maintained, as the mattress is also resisting you body from sinking in.
D) Body weight also plays an important role in how a mattress will behave & hence selections of mattresses must be also done based on known body weight, thankfully there are various densities of mattresses available that are suitable to give the necessary softness as well as resilience to every category of body weight.
E) Mattresses are majorly made between, 28 to 45 densities, that is PU Foam mattresses, and these densities help determine the body weight ratio. A pocket friendly mattress can be one density all through its height and still can give the needed softness with necessary resilience.
F) Whereas custom designed mattresses are necessary for the couple who have different body weights. The reason is that one particular medium, say it PU, Bonnell Spring, or pocket spring mattress cannot give the construction of a soft top & resilient under mattress layers, hence mix & match of all these available mediums are a must to form a mattress that suits well to a body.
G) HARD mattress is better, as it will last long, but if the condition mentioned in C does not meet then, the same mattress that is responsible to give you rejuvenating sleep may give serious health issues. Follow body weight & density ratio.
H) We shed about 600,000 skin cells in 24 hours, out of which over 300,000 skin cells are likely to be shedded during sleep, that is about 1.42 grams per day & 52 grams in year & almost 208 grams in 4 years, if two people are sleeping on one mattress, we may have dumped about HALF kg of our dead skin cell in the mattress. Needless to mention how bacteria, viruses & pests work with biological wastes, CHANGING our mattress every 3 to 4 years can be considered as a value-adding factor for a healthy life, as practically we are sleeping on a pile of biological ecosystems that is sustained from our own biological wastes.
I) Changing pillows every year can also be considered healthy, pillow covers & bedsheets must be replaced every week, if you are sleeping without a bedsheet, change the side of the mattress every 3 to 4 months & consider replacing the mattress with a couple of years.
J) Any mattress with right combination of density vs body weight ratio may continue to give us necessary comfort & sleep for at least 2 to 3 years & the investment or the value for the money has been served, look for a newer & better options that may be available after these 2 to 3 years, so that once again health benefits can be added.
Please feel free to ask questions, as those who sleep on customized mattresses with a detailed understanding on every aspect of sleep, health, have realized that unknowingly masses end up sleeping on Hard Medium and it is not what their body needs, yet they end up buying at premium price for themselves & their loved ones.
